Someone on another forum asked me to post some pics of my sculpy bases in various stages so I thought I'd put the post up here as well. Here are some sculpy/super-sculpy mix rocks in various stages. This is the last bits of a much bigger sheet, cut to just a bit larger than the base size so there's room to break and carve off. A nice bonus to this is that many of the bigger pieces that you break off to shape this rock can be used as scatter on other bases or terrain pieces. And this is what it looks like after about 5 minutes with some nippers and an xacto. The nice thing is the sculpy has a good rough texture without adding sand or anything to it. Here is a completely different piece that I worked to be at an angle. Probably be for a herald or unit champ at some point. And finally, a finished but unsnowed base. This is going to be for my BSB on Juggernaut. Next time I make a batch of the stuff, I'll take some pics of that process too. Probably be making a special piece for the plastic Prince that is going to be my Bloodthirster (til my LoC is converted and painted) next week so I'll try to do it then.

Really liking this thread Jim!
I am glad you are getting so much done. I tend to like to build the army(unit) first and then prime it all at one go. I may paint in batches, but I have never tried to build a little, greenstuff a little, prime a little, paint a little... Maybe I will sometime :>

Eric,
I discovered early on that the Daemons were going to be much easier to paint while off of the bases. I don't even fully assemble the Bloodletters before painting...they're lots easier to paint with heads and bodies separate. Also, with the rock bases and how I'm pinning each model on, there's no way I could paint them after basing, there'd just be too many areas I couldn't easily get to. I could build them all but for storage issues it's just been easier to do them a rank at a time. Seems to keep me focused better as well...no getting distracted by the shiny Specials when I have a ton of Core to paint.

I'm also finding that blogging my progress is really helping me stay motivated to keep grinding away. And I really am looking forward to this army hitting the table!

My new Daemon Prince (hereafter known as The Bloodthirster), is built and ready for priming. Got some alternative thigh armor on him (which will sit lower, I haven't trimmed the pins down yet). Also have an etched brass Khorne symbol coming for his chest. Pic 1 Pic 2

Allright! Friday means I get a late night of painting tonight and tomorrow night! Here's what's on the table for the weekend:
5 more Bloodletters! Looking down the barrel of 40 Letters and Erik's comments from Brihammer 001 do ring true..."40 of anything is a LOT!". However, only two more batches of 5 and I'll hit the halfway point!
BSB Herald on Juggernaut - working slowly on this one. Just basecoating right now in between Bloodletters.
Prince Thirster - all primed and ready to go. I'm dying to start getting some paint on this guy!
Dwarfs - taking a break from the rank & file to do the General and the Anvil of Doom. Anvil is about half done already. Also have to glue a unit of 10 Thunderers to their bases tonight.
I've built and greenstuffed and primed most of the week, I am ready to PAINT!

Got some good progress in this weekend, but nothing dine to the point of pics. Heads are ready for detailing 5 Letters and all 5 bodies are basecoated. Got a bit of basecoating started on the prince as well. Should have the 5 BLs done and based by the weekend!

Got a bit sidetracked the last week getting stuff in order for Midwest Rampage 6 so haven't had anything to update pics-wise. I have been painting, just haven't gotten anything actually finished. Should have a nice update this weekend though.
Rampage details will be coming tomorrow or Wednesday!

Finally was able to finish the next rank of Bloodletters. Plus a Horror Champ for the Challenge. That's 15 completed. The next batch of 5 will finish the first unit of 20. Had a tweak to my list so now running 2 units of 20 at 2500 instead of 1 unit of 32. More drops is good. Next batch is built but not primed. Too wet here this weekend. Working on the Herald Jugger and the Prince/Thirster while waiting to prime the next rank.

Was tweaking my army lists last night for 2500 and 3k and came to the realization that with the exception of the LoC and Flesh Hounds, my army is entirely plastic minis.
I actually thought that was kinda awesome.
New lists
2500
Bloodthirster Khorne Herald BSB on Jugger Tzeentch Herald w/Life 20 Bloodletters, Full Cmd 20 Bloodletters, Full Cmd 18 Horrors, Full Cmd 18 Daemonettes, Full Cmd 5 Flesh Hounds 5 Seekers, Full Cmd 1 Bloodcrushers, Std
3K
Bloodthirster Khorne Herald BSB on Jugger Tzeentch Herald, Life Tzeentch Herald, Beasts 20 Bloodletters, Full Cmd 20 Bloodletters, Full Cmd 18 Horrors, Full Cmd 18 Daemonettes, Full Cmd 18 Daemonettes, Full Cmd 5 Flesh Hounds 6 Seekers, Full Cmd 1 Bloodcrusher, STD 1 Bloodcrusher, STD
The tweaks give me more deployments AND up my banners for B&G. Fortitude for 2500 is 9 and for 3k it's 11. And now any of my Core units are small enough to start in the Watchtower. In my original list it would have had to be the Daemonettes.
When I get the LoC done, he'll swap out the Thirster and Beast Herald at 3K and the Thirster and something else at 2500.

The last five Letters of the first unit of 20 are primed and I started the heads last night! Hoping to get them done by next weekend. Jim
