So me and my buddy we talking about cannons.
If the cannon shoots a monster with rider I thought you would roll randomly and see who it would hit like normal and then it would move on (or not if it hit the monster and didnt kill it). but the example on page 113 leads me to believe that might not be true. can anyone tell me how it would work?

both rider and mount take a hit from the cannon assuming it is bigger than a cavalry model. You don't randomize.

Or a skaven screaming bell for that matter? Doesnt it have special rules for shooting? What trumps what?

Everyone gets hit by a cannonball that doesn't have a special rule. So if you hit a steg all 5 crew get hit as well as the steg. If it is a template weapon then you randomize the center hole for the multiple wounds and everyone else takes the smaller shot. Or a skaven screaming bell for that matter? Doesnt it have special rules for shooting? What trumps what? Here is such a case where you would randomize on a cannon shot because it is classified as unique. It appears AB always trumps BRB. Makes no sense but those are the rules as written. I am not saying I agree (I think everyone on the Bell should be hit as well)

Tony (powerposey) has it right. Skaven have weird special rules that trump the BRB atm.

Here's a cannon one. Shoot a block of Ogres. Hits the first one and does a wound (not d6 if i'm thinking correctly), but since the ogre doesn't die it doesn't continue into the next rank correct?
