Anyways......here is my last battle report:
To finish off my last game, I got to play against Lizardmen. This would let me face off against the top 3 armies at the moment. Why not? The final battle was Pitched Battle. My opponent was the brother to the DE player I just played against. He had:
Slaan with Life magic
Scar Vet
2 x 10 skinks
10 chameleon scout skinks
2 x 25 Saurus
20 Temple Guard (both characters here)
Stegadon
2 x 2 Salamanders
The table wasn’t that important. I had set this one up. The left side of the table had an Elven Waystone on each side directly opposite each other. There was a small hill in the middle to block line of sight. There was a ruined building to separate our middle from the right flank (well, the other was his left). In the middle of the right flank was an Arcane Ruins that was a little bit big.
I set up most of mine in the middle-left. I was sure he would put his Slaan near the Elven Waystone. He didn’t. He put his in the middle. My right was a bit weak with only 20 gobbo archers, pump wagon, spider riders, and a rock lobba.
This game ended in the middle of the 3rd turn. I will just tell you how it went real fast.
His skinks swarmed my pump wagon, spider riders, and rock lobba. They owned the right flank.
Everything rushed the middle. His Salamanders flanked my battle line as I was too heavy on the right flank (they hit the left). In one turn, he torched my battle line. My BSB’s unit was particularly hard hit. The Stegadon then fired at it. He gets 4d6 shots with that thing ?!?!?!?!? As if the huge beast wasn’t tough enough….it is a mobile artillery platform ?!?!?!?!? I was quite surprised by this. I hope we get something like this in our list. My BSB’s unit of goblins was taken down to seven (23 dead) in one shooting phase. The other goblin unit was pretty hard hit, too.
I was behind in points and really wanted to smack it to someone (especially after the last game). I rushed forward to attack the saurus. Even my Warlord left the unit he was in and hit the flank. Even the giant went in. We smashed the unit up and they were outside of the BSB/General Slaan. The broke and I ran them down.
The trolls fought the Stegadon. I can’t recall who won, but no one broke in that one. His other unit of Saurus attacked my trolls. That combat went on with no real winner. The rest of my army was ready to flank this combat and really smash them. I had my giant, Big ‘Uns, and pump wagon ready to flank in and smash both the Stegadon and Saurus.
My BSB turned his seven goblins around and were marching away to conserve their points. They didn’t do anything the rest of the game. In fact, they didn’t get another turn.
The Waaagh! spell that I was able to get off had my lvl 2 and bow goblins hit the Salamanders in the rear. The general’s old unit charged the other Salamanders. The general’s old unit killed one, but got flanked by the Slaan’s unit. Before they broke, they managed to kill the last Salamander. The lvl 2’s bow goblins killed a salamander, but were run off when some skinks hit them in the rear.
So, the game was called when he finished running down one of my units. He got 3 turns and I only got 2. We counted up the points, though, and I ended up ahead by 70 pts or so. So, it was a draw! It means I had a win/lose/draw. I can’t really complain. I’m trying to think as to why we took so long playing. I think it was because we were chatting and just generally having a good time. So, it wasn’t bad that we didn’t get to finish. Oh, I would’ve had more points, but I was out to have fun, right? Also, the guy didn’t bring a jacket and only had a t-shirt on! There was no heat and it had been snowing out. I had taken my jacket off as it had warmed up a bit and let him borrow mine. He was really appreciative of that. We spent a lot of time talking about what all the different spells did or checking up on this or that rule. It wasn’t bad.
