Hi folks, I am a new listener, having just discovered that my mobile phone can handle podcasts. I have spent my entire week at work; that is about 40hrs, with various podcasts going in my ear. I recently heard about this podcast and decided to check it out. So far, I like it. A bit about myself. Well, I am across the pond from you all; in the UK. I have been a long time dwarf and fantasy gamer. Well... I say gamer, but I haven't gotten a game of fantasy in for a long time. I am more of a painter more than anything. I love to paint and try to do it as much as I can. As I said, I am a dwarf player. It was my first army and has always held a place in the hobby for me - perhaps it is because I have a beard and love ale? - and I am currently involved in repainting my dwarf army. Though, I have had plans to expand into a Orc and Goblin army, but will be waiting for the new book and the completion of other projects before I move on to them. I also run a couple of blogs, that some people might be aware of; thegrumpystunty.blogspot.com/the-tradingpost.blogspot.com/Kuffy

Welcome to the Brohammer forum, Kuffy! I can't wait to wade through your blogs. I am on the verge of starting a new dwarf blog as well.

Welcome to the Brohammer forum, Kuffy! I can't wait to wade through your blogs. I am on the verge of starting a new dwarf blog as well. Thanks for the welcome. Feel free, to look about. I might well post up some minis. I have a backlog of minis. I was enjoying hearing that you use rangers, Tom. I was surprised to hear that you don't use missile weapons with them. I don't get to play much (it is all 40K where I am), but I am aware how much dislike ranger had last edition. It is great to hear that people are reconsidering them in the new one. Kuffy

Funny you should mention that! I do have rangers in my non-gunpowder list. I just finished making two gunpowder lists for upcoming tournaments, and I noticed that I didn't have rangers or miners in either of them. I definately feel that I will miss the benefit of scouting deployment and underground advance. I do have a gyrocopter in the lists to cause havoc. I may need to find the 50 points to drop the shields, pick up great weapons, and upgrade to rangers. Ya know, 25 points for S5 throwing axes does sound pretty good! However, needing 6's to hit (-1 for being charged, -1 for long range) unless they were within 3" is not likely to yield very many wounds. Pretty cheap for a good time though!

Or are you referring to quarreler rangers? I was just informed by Chris M that they can really mess with the opponent by being deployed in close range in addition to having great weapons.

See, I have never used rangers and no one ever took them in 7th. I can see how they are of some use in this edition. I might have to look into them, when I get chance to play a fantasy game. The S5 throwing axes are of interest to me... How do you think quarreller rangers work in this edition? The gyrocopter I know is unused this edition due to a number of it's rules being weakened. For example it is one of the only models in the game that has a 4+ to hit template, rather than auto-hit like the rest. Kuffy

How do you think quarreller rangers work in this edition? I am intrigued. However, I think quarrellers are a concession. I don't find they do many wounds. It is a pretty good diversion that must be reacted to. The gyrocopter I know is unused this edition due to a number of it's rules being weakened. For example it is one of the only models in the game that has a 4+ to hit template, rather than auto-hit like the rest. I did hear a lot of people dropped them. I am planning on taking a gyrocopter in my new lists. It's a terrific conversion opportunity. It's an expensive annoyance like a high elf eagle but T5. I think most of the rest of the war machine templates have some randomness to whether they hit or not. So, I'm actually impressed if they thought through that the gyro needed randomness in terms of partials since it can be successfully aimed. Must be on purpose since it hasn't been errated. However, they could probably sell two per army if partials were hit... I guess it's "good to be a dragon" in this case.
