Long Time lurker first time poster.
Let's see where to start...
My real name is James but everyone calls me Domus. Hell, even my mom used to call me Domus. It's been my nickname since high school. I have a 7 year old and a lovely wife at home that often are clamoring for my time amidst my myriad of hobbies.
I love gaming. I started as a kid playing Chess, Monopoly and most any other board games I could. Then the Milton Bradley 'Games Master' series arrived and I was hooked on the concept of complex, multi-piece board games (Axis & Allies, Conquest of the Empire, Shogun, etc...). D&D came a bit later until video games landed and a new world opened up where I would be forever entrhalled.
In 2002/3 I picked up my first Warhammer army (Hordes of Chaos army box) and ventured into my local gaming store. After meeting a few fellas and playing some games I was hooked. Tom (of Brohammer fame) was one of those guys and Caius was one of the others - both of which are still great friends to this day. Thus the obsession began and I loved both the game and the hobby and even wrote hobby articles for an international Magazine for the last year + (Unseen Lerker).
Until 8th edition hit and the distaste began.
I've struggled with a personal enjoyment of the 8th edition concepts as I am very much a competitive gamer. I never played Orcs & Goblins in 6th / 7th for this reason. The easiest way I can describe some of my feelings about 8th edition is that everyone overnight turned into an O&G player. As a competitive gamer who is also an avid hobbyist I also have a huge issue with T.L.ofStupid and the impact modeling can now have to a model in a game.
I've been away for a bit pursuing other games (Descent, Civilization, WoW-Cataclysm, Magic, etc...) for a while but ultimately miss the hobby and the great friends I've made over time.
My goal now is to continue my love of the hobby and find some way to make that work for me within the current framework of the game, or to just not care about competitive gaming and hobby my ass off. I even played a game vs. McClure last Friday night (which I won in large part thanks to the awesome sauce of an I.F. Okkams Mind Razor on a 7 wide unit of Witch Elves with Death Hag BSB).
Armies I've owned / own
Tzeentch themed Hordes of Chaos
Tomb Kings force (after being beaten by 2 different 12 year olds this army hit the block)
Slaanesh Demon Army
Bretonnian Peasant army
I've sold all the above - in hindsight the Bret army would probably have rocked as an 8th edition army.
Lizard Army - Lotsa Saurus
Wood Elf Army - A fall themed forest spirit heavy army.
Ogre Kingdoms - Small force - 1/2 of an Adepticon Team tourney army
Armies to build
I have a DE army in early modeling stages to work on.
A Clan Pestilens themed Skaven force in boxes.
A entirely new Ogre Kingdoms army in boxes.
2 Legends of the Old West gangs
A Very Large Legends of the High Seas Pirate gang
And lots of misc. mini's to paint
Have yet to listen to an actual cast, but I will get there soon. Tom, Erik & Kevin are all long-time friends and I'm sure it will be an interesting listen. Hope they are ready for some brutally honest feedback.
More to come..
