Okay, I am a terrible painter and it seems this stuff might actually help me become more detailed. Has anyone worked with it and to what results? If you have comparison pictures that would be awesome also. I have a HUGE amount of o&g coming my way I bought after selling all my 40k stuff.(Two Fantasy Armies instead of one fantasy and one 40k!!) Not to mention my old stuff I am stripping to make them all look uniform. Is it worth the investment?

I love it! I started using it over a year ago, and I am a big fan. You still need to paint the basecoats with care, but it does speed things up by doing all the shading and highlighting in one. It will never look as good as someone who paints very well, but it will produce a nice tabletop quality paintjob. One secret is to always brush it one, then remove the excess after 30 seconds. If you do not like the results you can always paint over it or go back and paint touch ups like eyeballs. Check out my blog, powerposey.blogspot.com/ I have more adventures using it posted there. There are some other llinks on this forum where people are using it as well.

Two more things you should know about AP. Use the strong tone for most applications. It goes well with almost everything. Use the Dark shade on things with a lot of metallics (Chaos Warriors). Also the secret to making everyhting blend in is to hit the models with a very thin dullcote afterwards. I use the AP brand and it has only fogged up once, and that was because it was very humid and I was impatient, stinkin NC humidity

I was thinking about going with bright base colors and the dark shade for my orcs to give them a more menacing and dirty look. Have you worked with those combinations of color before? I also use Krylon Matte Finish and love it because its low moisture. Not that humidity is a problem out here in Hawaii but I can see why you would be concerned.

I tried the Dark shade on some bright stuff and it just came out looky dirty. If you look at my Daemon Prince on my blog I used the Dark shade on him. I wish I didn't. paint up a test model and see if you like the results.
I have heard good things about Krylon but have never used it.

This is easy.. want to know how it will look on O&G? Here you go.. Dark tone. I have both strong and Dark and the Dark is by far better for this application. The skin is Army Painter Greenskin, and a highlight of Dead Flesh (rotting Flesh). SO fast...

Thats how I was expecting it to look! Looks awesome! I know they have the Dark dip down at the store and I will have ot see if they have greenskin. I was going to use Grey and just base everything very carefully but I might just have to do green! I might still do grey on the black orcs to make them a bit more dark skinned.

normally I would plug my tournaments because we have these products on hand to try out and see if you like. Since your not even located on the mainland, ill spare you the CCC plug. Unfortunately the dip is the one thing I have yet to use, but am planning on using it to paint up a space hulk.
Instead I will embed the army painter vids. If this is in bad taste please remove or erase embeds. I just learned how to do this an I love to embed stuff.
edit removed the embeds.
Check em out on youtube though, handy if you thinking about using them.

I'm really interested to hear about everyone's experience with Army Painter dip. I'm really tempted to try that on my next horde army. 10 years ago I used the original dip (Poly Shade) and it worked ok. From what I've ready the army painter stuff has really improved on the process.
As a side note you can get a really nice effect with a simple wash of Devlan Mud over the whole model after applying the base coats. If works extremely earth tone colors on horde models.

I'm going to start up my own thread once my massive Orc order gets here from GW. I'm really making them eat that free over a certain amount for shipping. Although it won't be pretty and I'm really neurotic about putting up my work. I'm gonna bite the bullet and start a running thread.

Honestly posting my work online has made me a better painter. When I started I thought Man these look good... it was through the criticism and suggestions of my peers that I became better. Don't think of posting as showing how your work is, think of it as a class project and the rest of the class are the teachers. Everyone knows something different and only through collaboration can we achieve greatness! I'll be glad to help in any way I can with quick tips and tricks. I'm not the best painter in the world for sure and am FAR from golden daemon... I like mine red.... but start somewhere. trip down memory lane... my first models painted when I got back into the hobby. As compared to

It really is annoying having to wait for shipping for everything you need. Downside to living on a tropical island.

OMFG you did NOT just say there was a downside to living on a tropical island....... I swear to GOD if you were here two weeks ago you would have wished you lived anywhere BUT here... I didn't even make it home from work it snowed so hard!!!!!!! Curse you and your warm climate!
On topic.... use a pair of pliers when your shaking the excess off the miniature. More importantly HOLD ON TIGHT! I launched an orc over 50 feet while shaking him last summer. Also I hope you have been working out cause your biceps are going to HURT after 60 models. I would recommend doing them 15 at a time and taking a break. I have to do a crapload of my bloodletters.... My arm is gonna hurt for a month!
