So Denise and I went out the other night for the first time in a million years I am sure that everyone else knows about this beer, but if you don't, it is Turbo Dog and it is good! It comes from the Abita Brewery in Abita Springs LA. Apparently it is quite popular in Cary, NC where we were because it was on tap at two different places we went. This from Abita Brewery about TD: Turbodog is a dark brown ale brewed with Willamette hops and a combination of pale, crystal and chocolate malts. This combination gives Turbodog its rich body and color and a sweet chocolate toffee-like flavor. Turbodog began as a specialty ale but has gained a huge loyal following and has become one of our flagship brews. This ale pairs well with most meats and is great served with hamburgers or sausages. It is a good match with smoked fish and can even stand up to wild game dishes. Turbodog is also great for marinating and braising meats and cooking such things as cabbage and greens. Colby, Gloucester, Cheddar and Blue cheeses go nicely with Turbodog. It’s perfect with spicy Louisiana jambalaya or Spanish paella. Some even like it paired with chocolate! Anyways, I thought it was neat, enjoy! -Erik

I had Abita TD once as a dare back in the college frat days on Spring Break, I sure hope they changed the formula. Either that or you jsut have an odd taste in brew.

It's funny how there is a local brewery that most people consider the beer to be bad, but gets sent to the rest of the country as an expensive microbeer. Shiner Bock is that way. It's considered cheap and bad beer in Texas, but costs extra up here.
I'm surprised to find that it is on tap in Cary. It must be a new marketing push. I know that Raleigh gained a few new breweries, though. I've seen their beers on tap when I've been in the area. I found I like the Bad Boy Brewery called Helle's Bells.
Back to Abita...I don't care for Trubo Dog. I do like their Purple Haze, though. I haven't had it in ages, but it's good every now and again.
