"I've always wanted to start a wood elf army. Problem is in 8th its difficult to be competitive with em. Do I want to run a fluffy wood elf army or do I want to play a Iwin button high elf army.... decisions decisions......"
That was yesterdays conversation in my head. I think I'm going to fluff it up. I haven't done this yet in any of my armies and decided that winning be damned.. I'm playing what I want and what I think looks good instead of what will win. Painting it will be more fun anyway!
So to all you wood elf players, give me the tips..... tricks... dont bothers ...and must haves... give me the dirt on the tree huggers.

I wasn't aware there was a HE Iwin button. But then again everyone around here has bannded Power Scrolls, Book of Hoeth and limited the folding tower to ~30 models inside.

In my opinion to compete you need life magic (I will admit that I have not really tried the Beast lore), multi wound units/monsters, BSB, and archers. Even then it can be an uphill climb. Welcome to the forest

A couple of must haves: Treekin in a block of six 20+ gladeguard A lvl 4. Start with life and mix it up with beasts once in a while. With beasts you need to build your list very 'up your guts' Eagles
What I wouldn't buy at first (even if it's some of the coolest models) Eternal guard Warhawkriders Gladeriders ( these are totally useless, really...)
Otherwise go with what you like. For playstyle: you need to fight only at your terms. And you have wait and wither the enemy before combocharging. It's not easy but very necessary.
Some items and combos: Moonstone of hidden ways is cool with 20 gg or 5 treekin Bow of Loren/ arcane visions on alter highborn is your beat bet against high armor troops Hail of doom arrow is good on a scoutnoble or your BSB( in combo with ashyendis bane) Annoyance of nettlings Against those pesky etherals like wraiths use the resplendence of luminescence on a cheap noble or spellsinger in a unit of gladeguard. And watch em drop
For my own part I've had success with a unit of 30 gladeguard holding a liveweaver with rhymers harp and dispelscroll and my BSB with flaming banner and resplendence of luminescence with the unit holding the banner of always stand and shoot.
