Forest Strider on foot troops??? So the HE White Lions become Forest Strider by the current FAQ. But since they are foot troops already, I don't see how this gains them a single thing.
What am I missing?

Naa the venom thicket has special rules. I don't think forest strider eliminates the dangerous terrain test for this type of woods. Forest strider is there so that cav doesn't have to worry about difficult terrain in a forest. I'm pretty sure that even with forest strider you take the tests for a venom thicket.
although I may be wrong.

Strider says you don't have to take dangerous terrain tests in whatever type of terrain your strider is in, so yeah, if you have forest strider on infantry it really only helps them with the venom thicket.

It's really just a carry over rule from previous editions back when forests slowed you down to normal movement only and 1/2 of your movement speed also. White lions were able to ignore those penalties in the olden days and it was quite good then. I would imagine they get a different special rule whenever their 8th ed. book arrives.

Why not just say ignore the line then rather than making is something less than useless.

It isn't completely useless though, it still protects them from venom thickets, or possibly you may go to a tourney with a scenario that makes all woods DT for everyone. Also, there is a lore of beasts spell that makes units take DT tests in anything but impassible. WLs would be safe to move in a forest still.

Welcome to the Wood Elf players problem where all his troops are pointed for the fact that they have forest strider which every army has now.
Ho Hum, no point moaning.

It is generally worth it on wildriders though.
