Greetings from Memphis. Glad to see there is finally a southern based Warhammer podcast. No matter where you live there are some subtle differences in the way people game in different areas of the country. I'm from Michigan originally, spent 10 years out in Southern California and the last 5 in Memphis (yes a prerequisite for moving to Memphis was the city had a battle bunker). While I'm not a hardcore tourney player everywhere I've been has had different definitions for what was cheese. So I'm looking forward to hearing more about how you do it Carolina style! You've set the bar pretty high with a great couple of shows to kick it off. Keep up the good work! Rob P

Glad you have enjoyed it thus far! We are having a blast sharing our "Warhammer 10".
What army are you working on or playing?

I'd love to hear about the gaming scene in Memphis. In fact, I would love to make something like that a regular part of the show. I know that there are people who play Warhammer in my neighboring Southern States, but I don't know anything about them. It would be cool to hear about the gaming communities that stretch across the south. Perhaps if we find out it's bigger than we thought, we can build a tournament community in the South! That way we don't have to head up to Illinois all the time for a GT!
Are there a lot of players? A lot of game stores? What's it like?

Hearing that you've collected 42 armies is pretty awesome - very jealous. I'm kind of the other end of the spectrum in which I collect fewer, larger armies. I've been collecting Tomb Kings since 6th and the army is around 12K painted. I've also about 5K of dwarves painted. Finally I'm nearly finished with about 4K of OnG. Next up will be a themed HE army.
In 8th edition I've only been playing the Dwarfs and I have to say I really like them a lot. Though I'm looking forward to breaking out the OnG for the first time.

I should mention that I'm more of hobbyist and less hardcore tournament player. I had a gaming group in SoCal that did large apocalypse type fantasy games (25K+) - hence my propensity to larger armies. I do the occasional tournament but mainly play pick up games at the Memphis Battle Bunker
Here in Memphis Warhammer has been pretty good. We've had a few independent game stores come an go (still one open). We have a GW battle bunker which is a great venue for a tournaments (lots of room) and the staff is unbelievably cool. We did have a period of 18 months that GW decided to completely close it (even the retail store). They opened it back up last spring when GW relocated US HQ here from Baltimore.
The tournament scene at the moment is kind of down and out. We just have one indy tournament in our neck of the woods, The Shiloh Slaughter, in Arkansas.
Your coverage of Core Comp makes that a definite must attend for me next year. Keep up the great work!

I started getting worried when I realized I wouldn't likely get to all the armies even if I fielded a new one every year. My only hope is that one or more of my boys will join me in the hobby! I had started a website to publish all my army lists, but they are all 7th edition lists. Each has a theme and at least 2250 of figs. I love making army lists! home.comcast.net/~tom.mcclure/warhammer/index.htmlWhile dwarfs are my favorite to collect, O&G are by far the most fun to play. 4k painted - now I'm jealous of you! I've got a 2500 pt savage orc army and a wyvern. I might have to expand the forest goblins further if that new spider monster ends up rocking.

If you guys ever want to know more about Greenskins, head to Da Warpath. I'm Groznit Goregut over there. Very friendly site and I don't think too pretentious. Or, reach out to me as I've been playing one army for years. OK....I can talk about how many points I have and I can talk about how many PAINTED points I have...... I prefer the former I have made a serious dent this year in my goblins, though.

Awesome, I will check out the Da Warpath. I've never played the OnG and have just had the normal games against them over the years from which I have not learned all that much other than when you need to pass an animosity test you won't!
How do you tell a hobbyist from a hardcore gamer? The hobbyist will tell you how big the army is in points and the gamer will tell you how long they've been playing the army!

What if I don't really know how many points I have and I don't really know how long I can say that I've been playing? I bought the starter box 9 years ago, but I didn't really start playing until maybe 7 years ago. As for points, I probably have around 6k? Never really counted it up, though.
By the way, I think it's better to have one gaming store in the area. We have two that are on opposite sides of Charlotte at the moment. You get people who always say the other store is too far and everybody tries to angle to get to "their" store. If there was just one store, people would just go to it.
