Today we did some Acon practice. I decided to break out the bretts after leaving them sit for the better part of a year. My list
Lord with Heroic killing blow and a rerollable +2
Paladin BSB with a +1 and biting blade Virtue of Duty (=1 combat rez if general is alive)
Prophetess level 4 with Channeling staff and Lore of Life
Damsel L1 with nothing Lore of beasts
paladin with wyrmlance
9 Knights Errant with Errantry banner and Full command
9 KotR with Full command and Standard of Disc
9 KotR with Full command and the War Banner
37 Men at Arms Standard and Musician
10 Archers with Braziers
Treb
Treb
3 Peg Knights with Full command
I threw this list together as I thought we were going to be playing 2400 today but was informed that we were doing 2200 for more Acon prep.
I faced Dennis, again, and his list was rock hard as usual. He played his WOC list.
I prayed. The game was Dawn attack and he deployed first.
Both our setups were pretty normal I was on the left side of my board in the middle with only two units not in the middle, my Peg knights and a treb. No biggie.
He moved forward giving me some pretty long charges, he forgot Bretts move 8 with barding not 7 Remember that you guys during the tournament. I charged his unit of Ogres with 2 lances. My Errants and my BSB unit. He fled and I redirected to a unit of Chaos Knights with my generals unit and chose to fail the charge with my errants instead of taking on a full unit of halberds marked Khorne. My Generals unit slammed into the same unit of Knights that my BSB did. Needless to say those knights didnt last long.
Turn two I charged his Ogres and killed 3. They ran again. My second unit of Knights with BSB took a unit of warriors to the flank. I had a horrible roll on my pursue. I lost combat and fled but got away. Goodbye BSB. Turn two bottom saw them rally and then get charged again in three.
Turn two my general chased down the Ogres and charged em. I didnt Pursue and instead took the chance that they would in fact flee the 6" to the edge which they did and then reformed to face his general which had just positioned to take out my level 4. This was OK as I was expecting her to eventually get caught. As usual my magic was useless and I dont know why I take it!
Turn three he gets the level 4 and is praying to get a high overrun roll to get out of my front arc... no dice... His Sorcerer on disc charges one of my trebs which by the way killed 5 models all game, and he only kills two crew. I had spun my M@A earlier to face the warmachines and as he killed the crew overran but again I had good position and was able to charge with my Peasants. Combat rez killed him and he ran off the board.
So by now he has 1 unit left and I have 3. My peg knights are left with just the champ, my M@A (men at arms) got charged by a unit of warriors and died a horrible death (ran off the board the cowards), A unit of Knights of the realm with my General, and a Treb. His General killed my archers before he killed my level 4. I have killed everything except one unit of Tzeentch marked hand weapon shield warriors. After killing the M@A he was out of position to kill anything else and we called the game as I couldnt get to him.
Game set match Bretonnians!
I've played two games in 8th with this army and won both! Not a bad record... Maybe I'll work some more on em.
Oh the important part, we Drank Newcastle Brown, Sam Adams Summer Ale, Goose Island 312, and Bass Ale. For dinner we ordered burritos the size of your head. Thank god we play in my garage as I was able to open the overhead at the end of the night, there was a bit of gas in the air. Being nice out was a bonus too! Its 60 here in Chicago today.
