Like many other players I started my foray into Fantasy with the Battle for Skull pass box set. I wanted the dwarfs and a friend wanted the Goblins. I of course said ok and we each bought a box and split em up.
I played a few games with em and decided that I hated the static nature of the dwarfs during 7th. I was suggested Warriors of Chaos and started an army. I bought all kinds of stuff for my warriors and in the end was disgusted that I could do nothing with the army. I was a horrible general. I almost gave up. A friend of mine suggested I try Bretonnians as the Cav of the WOC was what I did like about the army. I did well with them. But....
I am a dwarf at heart. Honest to a fault, gruff, and can hold a grudge forever. (personal stuff incoming) I also dont follow any form of christian beliefs and favor the old norse ways of rune casting and worship of nature. The dwarf fluff (nature part aside) fits perfectly with my theological views and I've always had a soft spot in my heart for em. That and their love of BEER!!!!!
Over the past week or so in addition to buying tons for my greenskins, I've bought some dwarf stuff to fill in and replace some of the skull pass models. (I hate those models as they are too static)
Today I received a shipment of characters. I couldnt wait to assemble some. I put together my Lord on Shield bearers and am very happy with the look. I kept everything from my previous builds too so have extra weapons on sprus in boxes. I had em in a spot that they kept getting in the way but for some reason I never moved em. Today I went through and took out all the great weapon parts.
The Thunderer bodies are apparently the same as the warrior bodies. I happen to have a ton of hand weapon shield warriors already built so the bits will come in handy when I just ignore the guns and crossbow parts and glue on the great weapons.
Also with this decision to start another army was one to limit how many armies I have. I returned most of the Lizardmen stuff in favor of more O&G but some dwarf stuff too.
I've thrown my hat in to the ring and will be making this army the one that will be my showcase piece. With my knowledge of real runes, and the fluff of the army I can see some real potential. I havent decided on a base theme yet so will have to take some time with the build. I'm thinking stone cave floors, or large brick. Michael's has some mosaic tiles that are 20mm squares. I may use them as the base of the model. Painted of course... I'll have to do some rebasing on a few characters.....
Huh, longest post I have ever put into a WIP painting area. Guess I may actually want to do this one up proper!
More to come,
Chris
