Has anyone played Warmaster? Someone just gave me an OnG starter army box. It's got:
1 orc unit 1 goblin unit 1 boar boy unit 1-3 wolf chariots 1 Orc Warlord
I hear it's a very balanced game and pretty fun. How much more would I need to get to play a decent game? Does anyone know where to get nicely priced stuff for this game?

I played it when it first came out. It is a fun alternative on a Sunday afternoon. The mechanics for Warmaster are great. You give orders based on your Ld and your turn can end quite suddenly. It is much more strategy based than dice rolling. Painting those small 15mm sucked, and even worse was cleaning the flashing off the HE and Empire troops.
Too bad it never quite caught on.

Finding the minis and finding other players might be a problem. I almost feel that I have to have 2 complete armies to find someone to play with. I'm thinking with people frustrated in regular Warhammer in my local area that I might be able to get some people interested in playing.
What about the various magazines for Warmaster? I see them for sale on ebay and such, but don't really know what they have in them. Are they worth trying to find?
Also, what about terrain? I don't think I've ever seen terrain for minis that small. At least there should be some war games with terrain that I can use. Maybe even some train stuff.
Anyone know other companies that might sell the 15mm minis that aren't GW? I did some googling and found some, but maybe there are some I don't know about?

All the rules from the magazines are on the GW website and are a free download. Rick Priestly also has his own website where he is keeping WM alive. I can't find the link at the moment. I know one person up in Greensboro that has 3 or 4 armies, but that is it.
If I remember correctly. Terrain isn't as much of a big deal as in WFB. Rivers can just be blue construction paper, forests just clumps of lichen. The table size is also much smaller. A large WM game can easily fit on a 4x4 table. The Warstore has some 15mm FOW terrain that could be used.

Looking at what you have at the mo would be quite a small force.
I have OnG and Chaos.
When I run my OnG (not for a few years now) I take the following;
Big boss on wyvern boss in chariot 2 shamen
2 units Borcs 4 units orcs 4 units gobbos 3 units wolf boyz 2 units boar boyz 2 units chariots giant 2 rock lobbas
I think this is around the 2,000 mark.

Just thought of some more stuff.
you can make your boars and wolves go further by putting less models on the bases, i use 3 per base.
there are other companies that do models that can be used, calistra spings to mind. any 6-10mm figs are good, 15mm are far to big.
I have all the warmaster mags in my garage at home. they are good for the hobby read but not required for rules or anything.
I find warmaster to be a very good game with the order system and the way units can be brigaded together.
model rail terrain (z gauge i think) has some good fences and hedges. any hills are good regardles of scale.

Thanks guys. I'm thinking that it might be much to get into the hobby, but I will have a hard time finding people to play. I would probably have to collect all the armies myself and dish them out to friends to play.
I might start looking at Mordheim and see if I can get the locals interested.

Mordheim is the best game GW ever made. It is the game that got me back into this hobby when it came out in '99. The site www.mordheimer.com/ has all the Town Cryer articles and warbands as well.
