Do you guys use them? Where do you draw a line at being creative vs saving money/time? I have 5 Treekin. I want a unit of 8. I have one model that stands out. I think it is a 5th Ed Treeman character... I want do build something around him. I would need it to represent 4 treekin models to get me to 8. Thought?

Get some cheap tree models. Break up one of your oop treeman models, and have a leg/arm/face coming out of each tree like they are emerging from the trees.

Nothing wrong with using a unit filler. And as far as 5th edition Treeman models go, can't go wrong with Durthu.

Okey dokey,
In My opinion unit fillers should be in keeping with the look and feel of the unit.
They should have as much effort (in appearance) as if you had used correct number of models.
They should not create any problems for casualty removal.
If you cover all the above I cannot see any opponant having a problem.
You could use your Durthu model to straddle a 40 x 80 base with ease and use some folage to busy up the base. Using it to fill 4 models worth could be tricky as this is 50% of your unit but could be done if you intend to do the unit 4 wide and 2 deep (160 x 80).
Make the filler an inverted T so that 3 models from the front rank are coverd and 1 from the rear rank. This will give you 3 individual madels to remove from the rear rank and when you need to take of a 4th casualty just swap out the filler for the 3 from you casualty pile.
If you go this route then you will have to make the filler something special or your opponents could take offence. How does making an ancient building/structure/statue that is being reclaimed by the forest with vines and spites and a couple of Dryads all over it and your Durthu model standing in the middle looking as though he is calling the forest to cover the structure.

Good feedback there Warmaster Dave. It is really important that it looks like part of the unit and even more important that you can quickly remove the casualties.
