Now that is a great post! My DE army last year was fairly cheesy, cookie cutter for sure. My Empire army is not WAAC but it is a hard list to be honest. From what I hear, other GTs have allowed some nasty armies. Double Stanks, double flamers, ect. So I understand your concern for the guys attending this GT. Plus, your logic makes sense. Soft Guy Army goes 2-0, Hard Guy Army goes 2-0, easy 3rd game - maybe. It's still better than a comp list imo. I am not fond of "magical" terrain but it's all good. I am sure I'll have a good time as long as I don't have to play any Kobra Kai because mercy is for the weak, and I don't want Jason to hurt me. Look forward to hanging out with everyone at the Bash.

Yeah Battlebuddies _is_ dead these days huh? Ok, first off, my Slaaneshi army last year scored like 1,000,004 on WPS, so it was a total wheelchair DoC list ;D ;D I am going to change the comp banding to have a small bonus for soft and medium armies. Comp banding is still there for reasons that I said earlier. Hard list- no bonus points Med list- +5 bonus battle points (+1 per game over hard) Soft list-+10 bonus battle points (+1 per game over med, +2 per game over hard) So out of a possible battle points per round of 20... essentially a soft army would have a half game max points bonus in relation to a hard list. It isn't enough incentive to make a tiger change his stripes...but a little bonus to the med soft armies. I am thinking a medium army will have a slight advantage over both soft and hard to win, but it won't be an overwhelming. These bonus points are added AFTER the last game. Therefore not impacting matchups at all. Only effecting over-all score. Anyone who has submitted a list so far can re-submit in light of the recent changes. I don't have but about 5 lists atm though so no big deal. I haven't even banded anyone yet. I have not changed the rules pack yet. I'll announce and change the pack in the next day or so. You heard it here first! Thanks for the feedback. :> Go forth and make soft armies! I don't expect many soft armies truthfully. That is ok. There will be a few I think. The majority I think, will fall into the medium category. -Erik P.S.I fully plan to veto absolutely profane lists, be forewarned P.P.S. Brian, I exalt you for being protective of my balls and their bursting point! +1 karma :>

best TO ever. One who actually doesn't disregard feedback and will listen any suggestions players have, UNHEARD of on the east coast!!. Now that being said, my list will probably still be either med or hard ;D , but at least everyone has an incentive to play the list they want. Because i agree a tiger won't change his stripes, but it gives the guys who do naturally play softer lists, a chance at a descent finish. (heck the top 10 last year had all 4 comp bands present with 8 different armies!) Good Deal!

Well, I am not opposed to giving the "softies" a boost, gotta' love 'em. I am already doing the leg work to comp band. I think this is an elegant solution that requires little to no extra work. BTW the lists are banded by a panel of TO's (one is me) from across the country to get a wide perspective...in case you care -Erik

Comp Panels are a great idea! Good stuff all round; I think the +5 and +10 are reasonable bonuses. People bringing hard armies had a good thing going and Jerry just wrecked it. The Battle Buddies Site is dieing a slow and painful death, it's so bad that I was answering my own posts on the NFL playoffs. 7th edition drove a lot of guys away, and other guys are on WHFB vacations. I just hope that it's not the kind of vacation that Forrest Gump's father went on. Never fear Lamb BB is still carrying the torch... candle... match... Yes, Lamb BB is the standard bearer of the BB kingdom standing tall with a match smoldering in the wind.

yea, well i guess we will have to stay here on the brohammer boards then!! ;D
Sounds like everything is balanced between Comp, Sports, Battle and Paint ( btw who's judging painting this year anyway? is it strictly list driven?)
What i miss from GTs 10 years ago were the quizes. you had 10 questions from the fluff and rules that was open book. Those were when Grand tournaments were grand, basically whoever won Overall, was the best Hobbiest. (knowledge of the fluff, rules, painting, generalship, sportsmanship and brought fair lists..)
going to be a good time for sure!!

You are all welcome to stay here and post away! Denise will be judging again this year. It is list driven with a small amount of subjectivity built in. The painting checklist is printed in the rules pack. It would pay off to have a close look at it if you are still finishing/polishing your army to see what points you can pick up easily. Denise is an incredibly talented technical painter and very little in that regard escapes her notice when she is judging. If you drybrush vs. manual highlight, she will see. If you blend well, it will be noted. If you are fearless with your freehand, she will ferret it out. If you have a weakness, she will find it! She is basically the "Chuck Norris" of painting, hahahah -Erik

Oh no Jerry, sounds like she'll be able to tell the difference between line highlights and blended shading or freehand banners!
As for the rules ammendments, just to echo the others I think this was a good call on the comp points. Gives just that little bit extra incentive to not simply take the cheesiest list imaginable.
I've been reading through the tournament rules and I had a quick observation to make about Strategy Cards. It's cool to see these guys back again, they were a great little aspect to last year's tournament. That said, it seems to me that it'll be rare that any of the special rules will actually be used. Cards 1 and 3 cancel out special rules. If both players pick Card 2, it cancels out. Card 6 can also cancel out a special rule. The only games that will have special rules are if both players pick Cards 2, 4 or 5 and don't both pick Card 2. I worked out the probability (yeah I'm a dork) and there is only a 8/25 (or 32%) chance of any given game being affected by the special rules on either player's cards and that's without Card 6 being used.
If you want the special rules part of cards to play more of a part in the game, I would give Card 1 or Card 3 (or both) a special rule rather than just cancelling out the opponent's special rule. We still have Lucky Day to cancel out a critical special rule. If you'd like suggestions for special rules let us know.
This isn't a major criticism, just a nit-pick. I think we only had one card that cancelled out the other player's card last time?

Eoin, Being bitter about my paint score is not becoming of you... Those were PERFECT HIGHLIGHTS>>> OR should I send you to this link www.battlebuddy.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5298Even the TO of brawlerbash (fyi that's a 2nd TO) said.." The style you went with on the shades should look striking from the tabletop.
I particularly like the unit fillers. Nice modelling job!
-Erikall BS aside, I like stark highlights!! (until i learn to paint better anyhow..) I liked to think the score reflected my extras (unit filler, cauldron tokens, etc) rather than my paint jobs.... That being said, if i can get an average paint score, it's a win on my part!! (painting 150 models is a pain, considering i moved in JAN!!) Seems to me, your army is still 85 % incomplete.... Slannesh cheese again? But seriously get those ogres done!!!!

Fwiw I will have 2 guys coming with: Robi Robison playing DE's and Steve Holly bring Lizards (I think).
Steve also wants to do the terrain contest, but we are still talking logistics (room in the car).
What about use of non GW models? I will have some conversions as well as non GW stuff. Mainly my Treekin, as I have picked up a Reaper mini and a Gamezone figure that I would like to use. Of course they may get converted up too. Anyway, just checking before I get too far into it.
See everyone in April.
Steve

Actually Eoin, that is about the impact that I was looking for from the cards. They got a major overhaul from last year and were simplified in the process. There will be scenarios from the book (slightly modified) in play and _some_ mysterious/special terrain. I don't want too much going on. Steve, that is great that you got your buds to come up with you! You guys will have a blast i am sure :> Non-GW models are fine. As long as they are respresentative of the units that they are replacing all good. I want to give you guys a taste of what some of the terrain will look like at BB this year! I couldn't be more excited about it! Check out this special piece- simply amazing!: This and many other terrain pieces are a commission from dreamspiritwargaming.blogspot.com/They do small orders also and their stuff is surprisingly affordable and stellar craftsmanship! -Erik

Eoin, Being bitter about my paint score is not becoming of you... Yeah, I'm just jealous Ha! I've got as far as getting two whole ogres ready for painting. How many hours do we have left until BBIV? Actually Eoin, that is about the impact that I was looking for from the cards. They got a major overhaul from last year and were simplified in the process. There will be scenarios from the book (slightly modified) in play and _some_ mysterious/special terrain. I don't want too much going on. Okay, if you only want the special rules to affect one or maybe two games in the weekend, that's fine with me - it's the sort of thing I tend to forget about in the heat of battle. It just feels like they're a little self-defeating and you'd be better off just removing the whole special rule thing altogether from the cards. No big deal, I just wanted to check you realised how rarely they'll come into play. The bonus points from the cards are enough to keep the games interesting. I'm with you on limited mysterous/special terrain, good to hear it. I tend to forget the special rules and some of the more extreme wackyhammer terrain pieces (e.g. sorcerous portal) can utterly dominate a game. That's a nice piece of terrain... I like the marble effect a lot. One last question. I presume that with nothing in the rules packet to say otherwise, you only need 100vp over your opponent for a win?
