My 2010 project, probably 2011 aswell

I have recently started my WoC army with the plan to keep it small and fast moving upto 2250pts then look at adding inf and the slower stuff later.

I have a Chaos space marine army and decided to keep the colour scheme the same as i like the combination of colours, which are;

Purple, peach (not just a fruit) and blue.

Some things that i decided to try with this army that i have never done before are;

1 snow bases, I know, I know very common with WoC armies but it is something that i have not tried before. I wanted a deeper snow look than the normal light dusting.

2 artificial light sorces, this will be from the eyes and maybe some arcane items and gems.

3 NMM for any area that i did not want to use colour on, i am trying to not have any metal paint on the models or bases at all.

I have started with 2 units of hounds but have not got them photo'd yet but i do have a pic of my colour test mounted marrauder. I still need to do the boots and trousers but am faily happy with the rest of the model. lighting on the pics makes them look a bit grainy, sorry for that.









I have got a few snaps of my 2 hound units. Again I have to appologise for the quality of the pics. I am using an old video cam and a lamp for lighting.







I need to do another layer of the snow+white glitter mix on the bases and pads of their paws, then do the move trays.

I am also working on the other 4 mar horse. I am using cold ones for the muso mounts so that they stand out in the units.

Here are a few more pics of the work in progress of the first mar cav unit. lessons learned from this should speed up the next unit. I am going to start on a unit of knights next.

















A few pics of the finished mar cav on base (base needs flocking)













Have started on a unit of knights and a sorcerer on barded stead. then onto another unit of mar cav and that will be the first 750pts ready for conflict. Then I will start on making the next 1500pts for the warhamsters club champs later in the year.

here are some pics of my mounted sorcerer. i used the head and staff from a 40k lord kit and painted them in a green colour so that they are different from the rest of the model and other non character knights. i just neet to flock the base and it is finished.















The standard is my first attempt at free hand flat painting. Not as good as I had hoped but practice makes perfect so will not give up and will be doing free hand banners for the rest of the army and a BSB.





Next up is a test of a warrior with a great weapon (lance from the knight sprue).



Lastly is a tester for the second unit of knights that I intend to give the mark of slaanesh. I will let people gues where the parts are from. I hope you like it as I do and am looking forward to getting some paint on him.







I will add some more later as this is getting very big.

These are amazing!!!

I love the mask look on the mauraders.

I really enjoy seeing other peoples mounted models because I have difficulty with them. Love to hear how you approach painting horses...

Not sure what you mean by the mask look.

Do you mean the war paint on the faces?

If so it is 3 shades of blue (dark, mid, light) sone over the peach flesh.

With the marauder horse I did these by the following method;

built but did not attach the riders
painted horse flesh, in this case very dark purple then medium purple highlight followed by a purple wash to tone it down.

then chose one of my main colours and painted diferent parts on all the horse before chosing another colour and repeating so that each horse was diferent but tied together with the same colours.

when i was happy with the horses i moved onto the riders.
basic colours on them all then attached to the mounts before highlights and body/face paint.

Another update now that I am back in sunny scarborough, can't seem to get my pics to upload when in glasgow.

I have finished the first rider for the slaanesh knights.





I have also done the second rider. I have another 2 made and awaiting some paint, then I just need to make a standard bearer.






Next is the first 2 models for my warriors unit. since taking the pics i have done another 2 but do not have them photod yet.






Any comments greatly apreciated and again i have to apologise for the quality of the pics.

I have finished the front 5 of the warrior block. they are on temp bases at the moment as i want to base the whole unit at the same time as a few bases need to tie in to each other.

I have also had a go at my second free hand banner. I took some inspiration from an old Gieger painting. I hope I havent offended him too much. :oops:











I have been working on a couple of disc riders. the first is a vamp lord with a few daemonett bits on a screamer. just need to finish the base.









the next is still a fair way from being finished and is from rakham (before they messed up and went pre painted).







With inf looking to be better in the new edition rule book I am quite looking forward to making up a unit or two of marrauders on foot and pos enlarging my warhounds.

the rakham figure i have had for years and realy like the style of it. I have some other figures from the same range (alchamists of dirz) that i want to use in the army. this will then tie some of the army together.

I am back home again and have just taken a couple of snaps of the 2 characters. the lighting was a bit poor. all that needs to be done is the snow flock and they will be finished.







this next one i wanted the marrauder to look as though he is a forward scout and is briefing up the lord or is getting given instrctions.

Amazing stuff. You have some awesome/creative conversions and the colors really pop against the bases. So what was your recipe for the snow? It looks great.

For the snow I first cover the base with cheap bathroom rubberised grouting/sealent. (£1.00).

press in the models feet so that they sink into it for depth.

add and additional bit to taste. slate, spikes, weapons and body parts.

paint the models and extras.

thin some pva and cover where you want the snow.

using a mix of 75% snow flock and 25% white glitter cover the pva.

shake of excess after a few seconds.

repeat 2 or 3 times to get a good coverage of snow that glitters in the light.

Shagoth, not sure wether to magnetise the hands so that i can swap over weapon options.

5 Chosen with base colours and some work done on the blue.


Another 5 chosen/warriors with great weapons. figures from rackham range.


Warshrine (steg with an old kipper on the back) I have 2 rackham crew to go in the front.






Started work on 18/21 marrauders with flails. the first 3 are actualy finished but i did not get anymore photos. command group are finished also.




This is a 4 base unit filler for the marrauders depicting a mighty marrauder cheiftan leading his warriors on a savage jugger. I also had to make a 5th base to fit under the juggers head as there was not room for a figure. what i did was take a base and put an eight pointed chaos icon half burried in snow and skulls.






Next on the work bench is 3 marrauders carrying a planaquin for a nurgle sorcerer and 2 sorcerers on foot. I also need to finish some knights and marrauder cav.

Here are a couple of quick snaps of a sorcerer (empire wizard) that I have had a bit of a go at some smooth blending. The blue on the cloak bleeds into purple but the pic is not showing it up so well. I am very happy with the purple on the sleeves where I painted in the shadows and then highlighted it up to almost a lilac colour.

Sorry for being off so long.

Here is an update on the WoC.

First up I have finished the sorcerer an gave him a partner from the same box set.







Next are some more knights, one of which keeps getting used as a character on mount.







I have also being building up the marauder unit using some bits from beasts and flagelants.





The unit filler with single base filler to go under juggers head as a model will not fit.





Bulking out the warriors with extra hand weapons and giving them a khorne icon.



Making another unit of warriors with halberds.







I also got distracted with a yuletide gift.





And.........while i was painting these my daughter who just turned 8 2 weeks ago decided to start painting her gobbos.



I will try to get updates on more regularly in the new year.

Very striking stuff. I really enjoyed the feel of the conversions. I especially enjoyed seeing your little gobbo's gobbos. They are really cleanly done for some one so young. Having worked at GW in the past, I have seen ALOT of kid painted models to compare them too. A little ink wash and they will be sitting pretty. I hope she feels proud. I've a one year old, and I can't wait to rope him into this hobby. Any pointers on successfully snaring your kids?
